Christian Liaigre does not like fashion and does not deny it, nature inspires him. His style is contemporary, uncluttered and has been influencing many designers for twenty five years. His favorite material is wood, in particular wengé, dark and African, that contributed a lot to drawing to him the attention of the public. He likes having many projects, creating collections of furniture, rethinking a place like the Hotel Mercer in New York City or famous people’s houses (Lagerfeld, Kenzo, Rupert Murdoch, Bryan Adams) nearly everywhere in the world.
Since almost 100 years, Poltrona Frau has been working with the greatest names in design : Pierluigi Cerri, Achille Castiglioni, Michele de Lucchi, Jean-Marie Massaud, Andrée Putman or Cini Boeri… Considered as the “Hermès of Italian furniture”, the quality of production has always been a priority for the company, following the example of its patented leather, Pelle Frau, gotten after twenty one different stages of production and available in more than ninety shades of color.

Ria is Filipina and Yiouri is Cypriot, one studied design and the other architecture. They met in London in the 1980s where they both worked for the designer John Stefanidis. Few years later they decided to achieve (to fulfil) their dream by creating their first collection of furniture and by showing it in Paris. Success was instantaneous : the Crillon placed an order for the apartments of this luxury hotel, Neiman Marcus and Barney’s show them in New York City. They settled in the Rue du Bac and since then never stopped creating furniture very inspired by Art Deco for which they have no limits concerning the choice of materials that they use, like at that time : rare woods, crocodile, python, cobra or ostrich skin, but also horn or mothers-of-pearls.
After Habitat, Sir Terence Conran created the Conran Shop, his own line of shops, in 1973 in London, in which he wants to show both great design classics and the young designers’ creations. In Paris, he settled in the former warehouses of the Bon Marché designed by Gustave Eiffel. The Conran Shop is a successful alternative between the mass consumption design like Ikea or Habitat and the design in unique pieces or in numbered series presented in galleries.
Depuis trente ans, Christian Liaigre a beaucoup contribué à bouleverser les codes de la décoration contemporaine, en imposant l’épure et les essences exotiques, comme le wengé, sombre et africain, qu’il faisait cohabiter avec le bronze, le cuir ou les tapis de soie. Depuis 2016, le créateur a passé la main à son studio de création dirigé par Frauke Meyer, mais son style et ses codes, reconnus comme étant des références, sont restés les mêmes.
Ria est philippine et Yiouri chypriote, l’une a étudié le design et l’autre l’architecture. Ils se rencontrent à Londres dans les années 80 alors qu’ils travaillent tous les deux pour le designer John Stefanidis. Quelques années plus tard ils décident de réaliser leur rêve en créant leur première collection de meubles et en la montrant à Paris. Le succès est immédiat : le Crillon leur passe commande pour les suites du palace, Neiman Marcus et Barney’s les présentent à New York. Ils s’installent alors sur la rive gauche et ne cessent depuis de créer ce mobilier très inspiré de l’Art Déco pour lequel ils n’ont toujours aucune limites dans le choix des matières qu’ils utilisent : des bois rares, aux essences multiples, et des peauseries de crocodile, de python, de cobra et d’autruche.
Depuis près de cent ans, Plotrona Frau oeuvre avec les plus grands noms du design : Pierluigi Cerri, Achille Castiglioni, Michele de Lucchi, Jean-Marie Massaud, Andrée Putman ou Cini Boeri, pour ne citer qu’eux. Considéré comme l’ «Hermès du mobilier italien», la qualité de fabrication a toujours été une priorité pour l’entreprise, à l’instar de son cuir breveté, Pelle Frau, obtenu après vingt et une étapes de production différentes et décliné en plus de quatre vingt dix nuances de couleurs.

Fondée en 1954 par Jean Fournier (1922-2006), la galerie est aujourd’hui dirigée par Elodie Rahard et continue son activité grâce au soutien de Jean-Marie Bonnet. Tous deux continuent de défendre les choix de Jean Fournier autour de la peinture abstraite et des différents langages de l’abstraction, en associant des artistes plus jeunes à leur programmation : James Bishop, Pierre Buraglio, Didier Demozay, Sam Francis, Simon Hantaï, Pierre Mabille, Jean François Maurige, Michel Parmentier, Jean-Paul Riopelle, François Rouan, Peter Soriano, Claude Tétot ou Claude Viallat côtoient donc de plus jeunes artistes comme Frédérique Lucien, Nathalie Elemento, Stéphane Bordarier, Elizabeth Cooper, Nicolas Guiet et Emmanuel Van der Meulen.
